“Entertainment is not a sufficient justification for keeping animals in captivity” – Unknown
I hate zoos but I love animals ! Never wanted to have beautiful aquariums in the house or rare birds in cages. Can you imagine living your whole life in a cage ?
I do have four cats at home and they are free to roam where they feel like.
So what’s the thing about zoos ?
While I do understand that in some specific instances there is a conservation aspect to it, the obvious ethical question to ask ourselves is : “to what extent is entertainment a sufficient justification for keeping animals in captivity ?” or simply to what extent are zoos geared towards making money on the back of animals?
At that local zoo, their white lion says it all.
